Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan

After the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan

 at the end of August 2021, a crisis erupted regarding the operation of Kabul airport.

Ambassador Saed bin Mubarak Al Khayarin


assumed his role as the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Afghanistan in August 2019.

He played a crucial role in managing the country's crisis,

forming his security and personal teams as the core to efficiently manage the crisis.

He converted the Qatar Embassy's premises located at

the Serena Hotel into a command center responsible for managing operations during the crisis.

The tasks carried out by the team led by Mr. Saed bin Mubarak included:

  • Receiving Afghan refugees and ensuring their safety.
  • Effective communication with individuals and foreign embassies within Afghanistan.
  • Coordinating the preparation of lists and securing the refugees’ path to the airport.
  • Receiving humanitarian aid.
  • Arranging for the arrival of specialized technical teams from Qatar to carry out necessary repairs at Kabul airport.
  • Preparing the airport to resume its operations.

The Ambassador and the embassy team played a significant role in


the evacuation process and the successful management of the Kabul airport crisis by coordinating and providing full support throughout the crisis until its successful resolution.
