The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and its role in addressing the Afghan refugee crisis

The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy is a body responsible for cooperation and coordination with partners to design and construct the stadiums that hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, in addition to developing operational plans and ensuring the readiness of other projects. The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy played a major role in addressing the Afghan refugee crisis, as it carried out the following activities:

Contributing to the preparation of programs to provide support to Afghan refugees. This was confirmed by Mr. Hassan Al-Thawadi,

Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, as he expressed his pride in contributing to the preparation of programs aimed at supporting groups in greatest need of psychological and social support.

Providing temporary and safe accommodation within the places originally designated for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

“I was pleased to participate in a visit to a temporary place for the refugees and to listen to their stories. The Qatari government continues to make all possible efforts to ensure that the health and dignity of refugees is preserved and that they are provided with the necessary care,” said Hassan Al-Thawadi.

Organizing daily activities supported by the Generation Amazing Foundation, partners and volunteers.

Conducting a variety of programs, such as physical fitness exercises, artistic workshops, yoga classes, Arabic and English language lessons,

After the arrival of the Afghanistan women’s football team to Qatar, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy offered a training course for female coaches within the Football for Development program,

and the Khalifa International Stadium in Qatar hosted a friendly match between the Afghanistan women’s national football team and a team of Qatari female players, to reinforce the values of human solidarity. This was the first match for the Afghan women national team since the players arrived in Qatar as part of the evacuation efforts.

Through an awareness of the association between sports and development, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy has provided appropriate support and demonstrated its ability to provide the necessary assistance to Afghan refugees.
