Hassan Al Thawadi

Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy

Following the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan in August 2021,

Qatar exerted significant effort in executing evacuation operations from Afghanistan, as well as facilitating the travel and resettlement of refugees in Qatar.

Several Qatari entities participated in this operation,

Sincluding the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

Mr. Hassan Al Thawadi is a Qatari lawyer who graduated from the University of Sheffield

with a Bachelor’s degree in Law. He is also fluent in Spanish, French, and English languages.

In March 2011,

he was appointed as the Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy after playing a key role in Qatar’s successful bid to host the FIFA World Cup..

In 2013,

the organizing committee of the FIFA World Cup selected him as a special advisor to the committee.

When the evacuation operations from Afghanistan began,

the Supreme Committee for Projects and Legacy, under Al Thawadi’s leadership, allocated temporary and secure accommodation for refugees within facilities designated for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

They organized a series of

daily programs and activities to help them overcome the crisis.

In January 2023,

“World Soccer” magazine selected him as one of the personalities of the year for his role in organizing the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“I was pleased to participate and visit the temporary headquarters for refugees and listen to their stories. I am also pleased with the contributions of Generation Amazing, affiliated with the Supreme Committee, in these efforts, by allocating spaces for football and other sports activities, providing books and educational materials for children. The Qatari government continues to exert every possible effort to ensure the health and dignity of the refugees and provide them with necessary care.”
