The Role of Education Above All Foundation in Supporting Afghan Refugees

Established by Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al-Missned in 2012, Education Above All Foundation focuses on providing educational opportunities in conflict-ridden or poverty-ridden communities. It aims to achieve equitable and comprehensive education opportunities for marginalized groups in developing countries, focusing on the role of education as an enabling element for human development.

Education Above All Foundation

has contributed a major role in resolving the Afghan refugee crisis through the following activities:

Implementing the Educate a Child program

with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in order to provide access to quality primary education for approximately 70,000 Afghan children.

Conducting assessment of the needs of

Afghan students through direct interaction with them in order to design appropriate educational experiences that preserve their right to learn, help them integrate, and provide them with community support.

Working with partners to create pathways to

global education for the most marginalized students. In this context, Fahd bin Hamad Al-Sulaiti, CEO of the Education Above All Foundation, stated during the launch of the Qatar Scholarship for Afghans Project, “education of youth is necessary and important despite all the challenges, because education is key to ensure a stable and prosperous future.”

The foundation's Internet Free Educational Resource Bank

provides access to content anywhere in the world, including Qatar, and is designed to be useful to those who do not have access to the digital world. Afghan refugees in Doha were given the opportunity to successfully use the knowledge bank while they awaited resettlement.

Developing a special educational program in

the Dari and Pashto languages, for students between 4 and 16 years, and making it available on the foundation’s website. It is worthy to note that the Afghan education package has been downloaded more than 11,000 times.

Developing more content for Afghan refugees with

the aim of helping them transition to their new environment. The content includes teaching basic life skills and learning about the host country in order to help them feel as comfortable as possible.

Talks were held with partners to reach the largest

number of displaced Afghan learners to help them, facilitate their transition, and bridge the gap they suffer from.

Through such sustained efforts, the Education Above All Foundation has provided appropriate educational support and demonstrated its ability to provide the necessary assistance to Afghan refugees.
